CLAVA by Miss Make is a celestial-inspired quilt reminiscent of moon phases, with a repeated sequence of differently sized crescent shapes creating lots of striking movement. Clava is named after the Clava Cairns, a Bronze Age site outside Inverness in Scotland built with very precise astronomical positioning.
Baby: 39" x 48"
Throw: 57" x 57"
Queen: 95" x 95"
Circe (SIR-see) is a simple but dynamic arrangement of half-rectangle triangles (HRTs) that creates a bold design spiraling across the quilt. The Two Color version is graphic and striking; the Multi Color version is a precut-friendly option that opens up a wide number of creative possibilities. If HRTs give you pause, never fear! Circe’s HRTs work with a standard Bloc Loc® ruler size for super easy trimming; also included is a special template for making your regular acrylic ruler into a custom HRT trimming tool with both right- and left-handed pieces (video tutorial here).
Patterns include a full color 24 page booklet filled with detailed instructions & diagrams; a special HRT trim template; and a coloring sheet, all inside a high quality card envelope.
Circe is a confident beginner pattern. It was professionally tech edited by Jessica Schunke of Blue Sky Modern Craft.
Dioptra is comprised of a network of stars, their connections weaving together through their points, plotting a path across the sky. The pattern is named after the dioptra, an ancient Greek surveying device that allowed users to make large, complex measurements - say, determining the distance between Rome and Alexandria - based on the positions of the stars.
Dioptra’s stars include some unique angles, achieved through either foundation paper piecing or standard piecing with a bit of trimming (it’s up to you). Full instructions included for foundation paper piecing in case you’ve never tried it and would like to give it a try.
Patterns include a full color 32 page booklet filled with detailed instructions & diagrams; a foundation paper piecing template; a coloring sheet; and fabric placement worksheets, all inside a high quality card envelope. Please note that you will need to either copy or print additional paper piecing templates if you choose to paper piece (templates fit on US Letter / A4 paper).
Dioptra is an intermediate pattern, mostly because laying out and assembling the nested block design takes a healthy dose of organization.
The unique combination of angles in GAMMA creates the feeling of energy radiating out from the center. The design might look complex, but it is easily broken down into four repeated blocks. The three-fabric version is strip pieced for ease and speed, and both versions have carefully planned nesting seam allowances that make it a breeze to align all the seams.
This listing is for a printed quilt pattern. It includes a full color 28 page booklet filled with detailed instructions, diagrams, photographs and a coloring sheet, inside a high quality card envelope.
This is an advanced beginner or ambitious beginner pattern. The sewing isn’t too difficult, but you must be diligent about keeping track of pieces and blocks.
